NY’s Christine Quinn Urges Clerk to Inform Gays on Marriage
New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn wants the city clerk's office to officially inform gay couples where they can go to be legally married. She introduced official legislation Wednesday, that would require the clerk to provide information regarding legal gay-marriage to same-sex couples who register for domestic partnerships. It also would be posted online and in the city's marriage offices.
She stated due to the fact that it is not legal for same-sex partners to marry in New York the law would serve two purposes. To inform people about the states where it is legal and to put pressure on lawmakers in New York that NYC wants same-sex couples to be fully recognized.
Same-sex marriages are currently performed in Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont.
